“While Children’s always seeks to effect physical cure, we also honor the larger journey taking place. The integration of the visual, performing, and literary arts and creative and educational play throughout the hospital provides children and families unique opportunities for healing and the unfolding of new gifts as a result of their experience with trauma or pain.”

Theresa Pesch, Vice President of Development and Executive Director of the hospital’s foundation, Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota

Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota
Various locations, Minnesota

Confusion solved by graphics and a clear system.

Sharing a series of building with United Healthcare, Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota in St. Paul, was a confusing 3 dimensional maze. Navigating elevators and floors of separate buildings, the addition of a shared tower was going to add to the unclear visitor flow.

By developing clear directions giving system, a playful map with building represented by three local inspired icons, visitors and children will now have identifiable paths, colors and imagery to follow on their journey.

Reinforcing the pavilions and paths will be an art program, interpretive displays and interior standards that help reinforce Children’s Hospital zones.
