Rady Children’s Hospital Acute Care Pavilion
San Diego, CA
State of the Art Meets State of the Heart
In the early 2000’s, Rady Children’s Hospital started planning for their new Acute Care Pavilion. Designed by Anshen + Allen of San Francisco, Aesthetics was hired to design and implement a regional arts program, as well as the interior design and the wayfinding for the project.
Anshen + Allen, McCarthy, and Aesthetics worked closely to find opportunities to integrate art into the architecture of the building. A regional call for art was facilitated by Aesthetics. The final collection includes over 300 pieces of original art.
Aesthetics helped Rady Children’s Hospital manifest its commitment to using the arts to fully support its patients’ healing journeys. The results were described in major publications as “a new precedent in children’s healthcare” and as helping create “a place which heals, charms, and inspires patients, their families, medical staff, and all those in healthcare design who wish that hospitals had more to do with healing.”
Aesthetics also completed Interior Design services for Rady Children's Hospital.
Art (from top to bottom) by Ron Juncal, Lea de Wit, Ken Goldman and Christie Beniston.
